October is here with us once again. This means it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, that time of the year where we celebrate all the fights that have been won, as well as keep on fighting since the battle against breast cancer is yet to be fully won – and by this I mean finding a cure. But on a side note, breast cancer should be highlighted throughout the year; not just one month.
Since this month is all about breasts, we will be putting out a series of articles on the same, as well as how to keep feeling beautiful if you have come face to face with this disease.
To drive the point further home, did you know that statistics show breast cancer to be the second leading cause of cancer death in females? And if you have a close relative e.g. mother or grandmother who has suffered from the disease your chances of catching it double up? This is because in total, 15% of all women diagnosed with the disease have a family member who has/was diagnosed with the same.
To start us off, I am going to give you tips on how you can take care of your breasts inside and out.
Regular exercise:When someone mentions exercise, the first thing that comes to mind is weight loss. But that is not the case here because apart from keeping you fit, exercise also helps detoxify your body, including your breasts. This happens by minimising the level of oestrogen within your breasts. And in addition, by sweating it out regularly, your chances of having breast cancer will be reduced by a whopping 30%.
Sunscreen: The next time you are applying sunscreen on your body do not forget to rub some over the skin on your girls. Not only will it protect you against cancer, it will protect your breasts from premature sagging by stopping the breakdown of elastin and collagen which causes this age-old phenomenon.
Healthy diet: Try your best to stay away or reduce the amount of simple carbohydrates and processed sugars from your diet. This is because they have a tendency to generate inflammation and acidity in the body. If you reduce these food categories, increase the amount of veggies, essential fatty acids, good quality proteins and have a well-balanced diet in general.
Don’t smoke: I do not think I need to repeat all the reasons smoking is bad for you. But just to be clear, not only will smoking give you lung cancer, it will also increase your chances of catching breast cancer as well. In other words, smoking really kills.
Wear the right bra: Some studies have shown that there is a link between wearing bras and breast cancer. According to one particular study, females that wore a bra for 24 hours continuously had the highest risk of getting breast cancer, while those who did not wear any bra at all had the lowest. Although this is only one study, it is advisable and more comfortable to wear a well-fitting bra anyway, and it will allow the drainage of toxins.
Use moisturizer: Just like the sunscreen above, applying moisturizer on your breasts is also of ultimate importance. This is because the breasts have delicate skin which needs a moisturizer to keep it vibrant and scaly-free.
Examine your breasts regularly: The fight against breast cancer is easily won through early detection. And for this to happen you need to do a self-exam on yourself in addition to taking advantage of the free breast cancer exams available throughout Dubai. It is important to do your best to keep your breasts.
Stay away from fad diets: I must say losing weight makes you feel good. But if you embrace a fad diet, the results will be astonishing. In addition to gaining the weight back as fast as you lost it, you will have saggy boobs covered with stretch marks. So, if you plan on losing weight, make sure you do it the healthy old fashioned way.
